Do This in Remembrance of Me
What is the "this" that Yeshua is referring to in this statement? Four verses earlier he said, "I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer." Lk 22:15 It was a Jewish Passover meal and Yeshua held a piece of unleavened matzo bread in his hand. He broke it and gave it to his disciples saying, "This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me."
The early believers continued to obey this command for several centuries exactly as they had been taught by the apostles and we strongly encourage all of you to do the same. This year Passover is the evening of April 8. It is the first of the LORDS appointed times at the full moon, in the first month of the year on the Biblical calendar. This was the night that the children of Israel were set free from Egypt through the blood of a lamb sprinkled on their doorposts. Exodus 12:42 says,
And Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 5:7-8, "For indeed Messiah, our Passover, has been sacrificed in our place. Therefore let us keep the feast."
